The GRE is a standardized test used to evaluate prospective students
applying to various graduate school programs. The GRE is taken at
a computer-based test center. The GRE is required for most liberal
arts masters and doctoral programs, and measures verbal reasoning,
quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing
skills. The computer test is given year-round, with test times throughout
the day.
The format of the test is as follows:

The essay segments always come first on the GRE, but the math and
verbal may alternate. Additionally, you may also have an experimental
extra section which will be either a verbal or math section. There
will be no indication of which section is experimental.
