What Is The GRE Test?
The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are used when you are looking to apply for graduate schools in the United States, along with many other English speaking countries. It is designed to test your reading comprehension in context and a lot of vocabulary as well. You will also find basic math problems all the way up to Geometry. Algebra, problem solving, and square roots are just a few of the common math problems you will find when taking the test. Also on the test is going to be two essays, which will test your ability to write as well.
How Is It Scored?
There are three different things that you will be scored and measured upon your completion of the GRE. Your mathematics will be scored by itself, along with your verbal score, both will be somewhere between 130 and 170 going by one point. Your analytics are going to be score by themselves as well, somewhere between 0 and 6. They are scored in increments of half a point.
One of the most interesting things about the test is that it adapts to the questions that you have already done on the first part of the test. Once you get to the second part of the math for example, you will find that depending on how well you did on the first part, the questions may get harder. If you got a majority of them right, you will face tougher questions when you take the second math assessment. The benefit of this of course is that you get the opportunity to achieve a higher score.
The essays that were written will be read by a computer and a human. They will then give you a score of 1-6. If the essay portion is skipped, or you did not follow the directions, you will be given the score of zero. All of the scores from all of the sections will be added up to help determine the final score that you shall receive. That score will be valid for up to five years. If you have taken more than one test over that five year period, they will all show up for you.
What’s Really on the GRE?
You will find that while taking the test, the sections of the test itself can come in any order. There is no set method to the order. There will also be an experimental section, in which they will likely use to test out future questions. You will have no way of knowing where this section is though, so you will have to just bare with them. The test is comprised of two 30 minute essays, five sections on verbal ability and five sections on quantitative ability.
The math section is going to be comprised of two parts, and so is the verbal section. They are both going to take roughly a half an hour. You will also have to deal with the one experimental section, which you are not going to be able to single out. The two essays will be different. One is going to be an argument essay, and the other is going to be an issue essay. Make sure that you try your hardest on every section. Don’t worry if you did bad on one, as it may be
